Site Director: Boston

More Than Words (MTW) seeks an inspiring leader who combines a strong background in business operations, experience working directly with high-risk youth and a proven track record of motivating teams to meet and exceed goals. As a senior member of the MTW leadership team, the Site Director will lead the Boston site through a dynamic phase of exciting growth as we expand to create a 2nd floor hub of social enterprise to empower our community’s most vulnerable youth to radically transform their lives.    

The Site Director is responsible for cultivating an empowering culture that ensures successful outcomes for youth, fidelity to the MTW model, and alignment between the organization’s strategic agenda, operations and outcomes. Specifically, the Site Director provides strategic leadership, as well as day-to-day oversight around: all youth and social enterprise programming, quality assurance and accountability for measurable outcomes; staff development and management; and, cultivation of external relations, partnerships and collaborations.

Director of Bookstore Retail & Event Operations

If you love working with people, diving into the world of books while staying up to date on current industry trends, creating amazing customer experiences through visual displays and have a knack for motivating teams to reach and exceed sales goals, this is the perfect position for you!  Your creativity and retail experience will be fully utilized to launch and grow a brand new social enterprise bookstore, marketplace and event space in the South End of Boston.  This new bookstore is currently under construction in the thriving New York Streets neighborhood in Boston’s South End, surrounded by Ink Block, the Troy and a ton of retail and restaurant operations.  The 4,000 square foot space will be a center for engaging events and rental opportunities.   

As Director of Bookstore Retail and Event Operations, you empower staff and youth to manage the day to day bookstore and marketplace operations - driving sales, managing inventory, displaying merchandise, overseeing financial reporting, providing exemplary customer service, and building and maintaining relationships – all while fostering an environment that creates a community space where all are welcome.  You will supervise 2-4 adult staff business training managers including a new position – Associate Director of Events - to launch our new social enterprise event space and create a vibrant calendar of arts and culture events and rental opportunities.

IT Technician - Part-time

Responsible for supporting, administrating, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating information technology systems operations. This role will be the first end user support for the employees at More Than Words. The position requires the individual to act independently through the use of skills, experiences, and training to resolve IT issues - determining and documenting resolutions and/or advising on the appropriate action. Responsibilities also include hardware and software installation, deployment and support of PCs and peripherals, and network and systems administration support.

Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

The Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator will run and expand the volunteer program that spans both MTW sites in Boston and Waltham and engages over 1,400 volunteers annually. The Coordinator will seek new opportunities to engage volunteers and community stakeholders in our expanded program and new businesses, recruit and schedule volunteers, and support youth to manage volunteers when they are on site. The Coordinator will also collaborate with a VISTA member focused on Development and Marketing to engage youth in spreading the word about MTW on social media and a youth-written newsletter.

Development & Marketing Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

The Development & Marketing Coordinator will collaborate with the Development team of three to find, research, connect with, and develop relationships with new contacts to contribute to the growth of fundraising that is needed to sustain a larger More Than Words. The Coordinator will also develop strategies to expand the reach of our current marketing efforts and distribute the critical messaging about our new and expansive businesses via social media, a monthly youth-written newsletter, and other materials, and will test ways to more deeply engage MTW youth in marketing and social media to better communicate our mission and model. The Coordinator will also collaborate with a VISTA member focused on volunteer and community engagement to support youth to engage volunteers.

Youth Intake & Recruitment Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

The Youth Intake and Recruitment Coordinator will build relationships and help refine and develop a system of youth intake and recruitment that can accommodate a projected 60% increase in volume. The Coordinator will assess our current system and collaborate with the Associate Director of Recruitment to recommend improvements, and pilot and test new systems. The Coordinator will also research, establish, and sustain positive working relationships with community members and organizations in order to secure a robust pipeline of young adults into our Boston and Waltham programs.

Business Development Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

The Business Development Outreach & Stewardship Coordinator will build relationships with new partners for book drives or to host outdoor container bins, helping us source over 200,000 new books. The Coordinator will help refine our marketing materials and will collaborate closely with the Director of Business Development and the Business Development Team to build and manage these new relationships. The Coordinator will also engage MTW youth to develop and expand the ways that we thank and recognize book donors, library partners, and bin hosts, creating systems that are sustainable as we grow and give our youth opportunities to lead.

Evaluation Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

Data is meaningful to nonprofits when it helps answer strategic questions and is collected and interpreted in a timely fashion. The Evaluation Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Evaluation and other staff to interpret these questions, execute data analysis, and present the information back to stakeholders to support strategy. The Evaluation Coordinator will also support the Director of Evaluation and Learning to understand and improve systems to monitor data collection and identify meaningful patterns, and help create new materials that are easily accessible for both staff & participants to learn about data and evaluation.

New Enterprises Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)

The New Enterprises Coordinator will collaborate closely with a Director of Retail and Events to build new contacts and systems for the new marketplace. Building on prior MTW research and contacts, the Coordinator will build up a portfolio of products from other mission-based businesses to test out selling in our marketplace and collaborate with retail staff to create and pilot systems to manage the marketplace, including methods to set prices, order new products, and track inventory. The Coordinator will also engage youth in the marketplace and develop a training plan to teach youth how to research, price, track, and sell marketplace products.
