Site Director: Boston

More Than Words (MTW) seeks an inspiring leader who combines a strong background in business operations, experience working directly with high-risk youth and a proven track record of motivating teams to meet and exceed goals. As a senior member of the MTW leadership team, the Site Director will lead the Boston site through a dynamic phase of exciting growth as we expand to create a 2nd floor hub of social enterprise to empower our community’s most vulnerable youth to radically transform their lives.    

The Site Director is responsible for cultivating an empowering culture that ensures successful outcomes for youth, fidelity to the MTW model, and alignment between the organization’s strategic agenda, operations and outcomes. Specifically, the Site Director provides strategic leadership, as well as day-to-day oversight around: all youth and social enterprise programming, quality assurance and accountability for measurable outcomes; staff development and management; and, cultivation of external relations, partnerships and collaborations.

Director of Bookstore Retail & Event Operations

If you love working with people, diving into the world of books while staying up to date on current industry trends, creating amazing customer experiences through visual displays and have a knack for motivating teams to reach and exceed sales goals, this is the perfect position for you!  Your creativity and retail experience will be fully utilized to launch and grow a brand new social enterprise bookstore, marketplace and event space in the South End of Boston.  This new bookstore is currently under construction in the thriving New York Streets neighborhood in Boston’s South End, surrounded by Ink Block, the Troy and a ton of retail and restaurant operations.  The 4,000 square foot space will be a center for engaging events and rental opportunities.   

As Director of Bookstore Retail and Event Operations, you empower staff and youth to manage the day to day bookstore and marketplace operations - driving sales, managing inventory, displaying merchandise, overseeing financial reporting, providing exemplary customer service, and building and maintaining relationships – all while fostering an environment that creates a community space where all are welcome.  You will supervise 2-4 adult staff business training managers including a new position – Associate Director of Events - to launch our new social enterprise event space and create a vibrant calendar of arts and culture events and rental opportunities.

Associate Director of Events

If you love working with people, organizing creative events for a retail location, building partnerships with local film festivals, authors and community organizations – while training a team of youth employees to deliver world class events -- then get your creative juices flowing, because this is the job for you! MTW is currently under construction to build a brand new 4k square foot space in the thriving New York Streets neighborhood in Boston’s South End. Surrounded by Ink Block, the Troy and  multiple retail and restaurant locations, the store will include a bookstore, social enterprise marketplace and space for extraordinary events as well as rental opportunities. We are ready to hire the next leader to help MTW staff and youth develop our new social enterprise event space!

As Associate Director of Events, you will help develop the strategy and manage the day to day operations – creating events to build the MTW brand and community gathering space, driving sales, managing events calendar, executing venue rental program and marketing strategy to build attendance goals and leading a team of youth employees and adult staff.  You will successfully deliver on financial reporting, exemplary customer service, and building and maintaining relationships - fostering an environment that creates a unique community space that brings people together.

Youth Development Manager 

More Than Words (MTW) seeks a Youth Development Manager (YDM) with experience working directly with high-risk youth. The YDM supports youth, individually and in small groups, to set and achieve goals around education, employment and self-efficacy, to manage and navigate challenges as they transition to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood and establishes performance standards as a basis for “compassionate accountability.” MTW utilizes a positive youth development approach, emphasizing a youth’s strengths and assets in fostering skill building around school, work and life. Youth participating in MTW have a unique opportunity to become trainees in MTW’s retail and online business enterprises as a means of obtaining first-hand on-the-job experience and the Youth Development Manager participates in the interviewing and selection process.

In addition to working directly with youth, the Youth Development Manager is responsible for youth recruitment and orientation, for representing MTW to the community and for building and enhancing relationships with referral and other community partners. As MTW is committed to using data to improve performance and results, the Youth Development Manager is responsible for accurate and timely data tracking and for incorporating data inquiry as a critical learning tool to improve practice and programs.

Book Donations Manager

More Than Words is seeking a Book Donations Manager to handle pick-up and delivery of book donations from private homes, businesses, libraries and community groups on a weekly basis.  The ideal candidate is a flexible, hard-working individual who is comfortable driving the MTW truck and/or MTW van in the Boston Metro area. This is a full time salaried position.  MTW strongly encourages applications from individuals with previous truck/moving experience.

IT Technician - Part-time

Responsible for supporting, administrating, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating information technology systems operations. This role will be the first end user support for the employees at More Than Words. The position requires the individual to act independently through the use of skills, experiences, and training to resolve IT issues - determining and documenting resolutions and/or advising on the appropriate action. Responsibilities also include hardware and software installation, deployment and support of PCs and peripherals, and network and systems administration support.
